Concert: The Bhakti Sangeet Troupe with Dr. Vidya Shah

The Bhakti Sangeet Troupe from India lead by renowned vocalist Dr. Vidya Shah will be performing at Swaha Divya Ashram, #5A Mowlah Street Preysal, Couva, at the Ganesh Utsow celebrations on Sunday 23rd August from 5.45pm.

Trained initially in Carnatic music, Vidya Shah later received guidance in Hindustani classical music from Shubha Mudgal. She is currently learning thumri, dadra and ghazal gayaki from Shanti Hiranand. A popular performer, Vidya has also composed and recorded for several projects.She has to her credit releases with international and Indian labels. Amongst her other projects are “Har Mann Mein Aman” for the National Commission for women, “Ham se Zameen Aur Aasman” for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India. In January 2008 she released Ham Sab – Celebrating Cultures of Resistance. She performed for the Humbolt Forum and the Max Planck institute at the Bode Museum in Berlin in October 2008. Vidya performed in a text- song concert with William Dalrymple at the Kala Utsav in Singapore November 2008.
