Pt. Dr. Lomas Persad – The future of SWAHA

Hindu arrival day is more of an apropos designation than the present Indian Arrival day term. Hinduism has survived and flourished over the last hundred and seventy years because of the Hindu spiritual leaders namely the pundit. From Gathri toting Hindi speaking pundits traversing the land to perform funeral, pujas and yagyas, we have reached the stage of metamorphosis where Swaha pundits are acquiring the highest secular achievements in addition to maintaining the orthodox mritunjai dharma tenets. We pay hommage to the pundits of yesteryear who faced financial and societal pressure in persisting with educating their charges who are today’s pundits.

Swaha extends congratulations to the latest member of the pundits’ body, twenty-eight year old, Pt. Dr. Lomas Persad, who has achieved his Ph.D. in Biomechanical engineering from the Imperial College of London. He joins an illustrious list of Doctorate Pundits in Swaha namely Professor Prakash Persad and Dr. Umesh Persad.

Swaha celebrates 23 years of our existence this year. We have the spiritual leaders of Swaha who are progressing with dispatch to arm themselves with all the elements that are needed to lead a dynamic organization such as Swaha to effectively serve our country in the secular and non-secular field.

While each pundit’s experiences will be different, Pt. Dr. Lomas credits his success firstly to Prabhu Shree Ram and then emphasizes that the blessings of Mataji and Shankaracharya were the foundation of his achievements. He said that by serving them sometimes even at the expense of his final year studies in UWI, has paid him richly in blessings in the form of continued success. He intimates that in this month we should be celebrating such achievements that give tangible and meaningful ancestral accolades to the treasure chest of our rich religious legacy.

Pt. Lomas was assigned to the Swaha Divya ashram before his journey to begin his studies in London. He is now assigned to the Swaha Sukh Shanti temple where he has captured the hearts of the devotees in leading them in Sunday morning devotions and has motivated them to embrace the tenets of Hinduism so as to be enlightened and forward thinking Hindus in this century.

Pt. Lomas wishes to intimate in a laconic manner to all our youths, especially the leadership of the youth arm of Swaha, that in his experience the following are some areas that gave him success.

  1. Be associated with your Swaha temple at all times
  2. Have full faith in Prabhu Shree Ram and in yourself.
  3. Identify your career path and study diligently towards it.
  4. Serve your parents and ancestors at all times.
  5. Play a sport. Play an instrument.
  6. Maintain celibacy until after the vivah sanskar
  7. Have genuine friends.

Pt. Dr. Lomas is a role model.

In this month of Hindu arrival, let us motivate ourselves and our charges to contribute towards our future social and religious treasure chest. Let us celebrate Hindu arrival day by highlighting the achievements of our pundits of Swaha and all our youth.
